The Logan County Courthouse in Lincoln, Illinois, a historic building constructed in 1891 in the Romanesque Revival style, features a distinctive clock tower and an interior with marble floors, intricate woodwork and a grand central staircase. Designed by the architectural firm Patton and Fisher, this courthouse replaced an earlier, smaller structure from 1839.
Over the years, it has undergone several renovations and expansions but has retained its original charm. It continues to serve as a vital center of government and civic life and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
From 2022 to 2024, The Durable Restoration Company completed a crucial restoration project focusing on the courthouse's iconic dome. The original metal covering and protective coating of the dome had reached the end of their functional lifespan.
The project involved the careful removal and replacement of all failing metal, with special attention given to accommodating the natural thermal movement of the dome. This meticulous restoration ensures that the dome will continue to be a prominent and well-preserved feature of the courthouse, ready to be admired by future generations of Logan County.
