Asbury Methodist Church, Washington D.C.

We will be undertaking spot pointing with lime mortar in deteriorated areas, repairing the copper gutter system to ensure a watertight exterior, stained glass repair, and repairing the plaster on the inside that was damaged due to water intrusion from the gutter.

Asbury Methodist Church was built in 1915 and due to the fine stewardship of its congregation, it doesn’t show it’s 105 years. Proper Ongoing maintenance and Quality and historically appropriate repairs are the reason for this building’s longevity. Built in the English Gothic revival style, it features rusticated stone construction, lime mortar, a beautiful slate roof with built in copper gutters and amazing stained glass windows that reflect beautifully on the historic plaster walls inside, which are framed with exposed decorated wood beams.

The Durable Restoration Company is proud to be a part of the preservation here at Asbury Methodist. We will be undertaking spot pointing with historically accurate lime mortar in areas where the mortar has deteriorated, repairs to the copper gutter system to ensure a watertight exterior, stained glass repair, and historically appropriate repairs to the plaster on the inside that was damaged due to water intrusion from the gutter.

Undertaking these repairs with correct materials and methods, while following the secretary of Interior standards for historic preservation, will allow this building to continue life as the home of Washington DC‘s oldest Black Methodist Church.
